How often should I have my carpet professionally cleaned?
A good rule of thumb is once per year….but it depends. You need to first check with your carpet manufacturer and see what is recommended and required to maintain your warranty coverage. But typically this period is between 12 to 18 months. Factors like foot traffic (single person vs family of six), pets & kids may determine more or less frequently.
We highly recommend to our clients to vacuum regularly, 2 – 3 times per week if possible. This helps remove soil that when left unattended leads to damaged carpet fibers and therefore dull, dingy carpet. This will happen over time and will not necessarily be noticeable until the carpet is professionally cleaned, revealing the damage!
How much will it cost to have my carpet cleaned?
We charge by the cleanable square foot (sq ft) and is based on a standard price list. Adjustments may be made to standard price for factors like soiling level (Light, Moderate, Heavy, Extreme), fiber type (Natural vs Synthetic), condition (age, wear, damaged), etc. Therefore we only charge for what we actually clean as opposed to some companies who will give a “by room” quote.
For Example: if you have large furniture in a room that you know has not moved and will not move, we will quote just the cleanable areas vs. an empty room which has no furniture. Our standard pricing incorporates a volume discount; the higher the total square footage, the lower the price per square foot.
What are those ugly black lines around the baseboards and under doorways?
If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced these dark lines that appear on the carpet. This soiling is called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door. As the air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a build-up has occurred.
This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet. Can it be removed? Sometimes. With special products, time and effort, reasonable results can sometimes be achieved. To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum and wipe the edges of the carpeting on a regular basis. Be careful around the tackstrip on the edge of the carpeting, it could nick your fingers!
Can you get the stains or odors out of my carpet?
Maybe... Every situation is different and must be evaluated. While no guarantee can be given on stain or odor removal, we DO have a high success rate through the use of proper products and techniques. Some factors that may prevent our success include: age & type of stain, previous attempts to remove stain with improper products or techniques which may permanently set the stain.
How safe are your cleaning and protection methods?
We use only the safest, most effective technology to assure not only your satisfaction, but your safety as well. We use 100% biodegradable cleaning products, moderate temperature and moderate pressure to clean you delicate textile thoroughly.
What process do you use to clean carpet?
Veterans Cleaning Solutions is certified in all methods of cleaning and cleans according to the manufacturers recommendations. Most of the carpet cleaning we do is the "External Extraction®" method, also known as "hot water extraction or steam cleaning" This process is used by 96% of all carpet cleaning companies across the country. Most major carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction as the preferred method of cleaning.
How long does the carpet take to dry?
The normal drying time is anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. The carpet will only be damp to the touch. Depending on weather conditions, room temperature, air flow, and overall conditions this time can vary.
Should I have my carpet dry cleaned or steam cleaned?
Most major carpet manufacturers now recommend hot water extraction (steam cleaning) as the preferred method. Like the laundering of your clothing, steam cleaning is highly effective in removing soil and other contaminants from your carpet. It is one of five carpet cleaning processes that are officially recognized as an industry standard.
To most people "dry cleaning" means cleaning without water. The fact is that most carpet cleaning advertised as "dry" cleaning actually uses anywhere from a little to a lot of water! That's because most of the soil in your carpet is water soluble. For the most part that means better results are achieved with a wet cleaning process. On the other hand each cleaning process has its place given the right circumstances. For the majority of residential customers steam cleaning will deliver the most effective results. This is why most manufactures make the recommendation to clean using hot water extraction.
Does your cleaning process soak the backing of the carpet?
No, although our process rinses the carpet deep down, moisture does not penetrate the backing of the carpet. With our powerful truck-mounted equipment, your carpet is thoroughly rinsed, but left only damp to the touch.
What does it mean to "clean to the standards?"
In 1992, representatives from the carpet manufacturing industry, the carpet cleaning industry, and the federal government all agreed upon a common set of standards for the carpet cleaning industry. These standards are now referred to as the CRI standards. Veterans offers all of these methods and can select the process that's right for your needs.
It was agreed that each of these cleaning processes should include these common steps:
Cleaning your carpet in accordance to these industry standards will help assure that you'll get a quality cleaning job. Veterans' "12 step cleaning service" exceeds these specifications. In addition to these steps The Veterans Team has powerful truck-mounted equipment combined with our exclusive "Quick-Dry" process which reduces drying time to only a few hours.

What are the ugly black streaks on my roof?
Your roof is not dirty it’s infested with bacteria. Those unsightly black streaks are a form of bacteria, thriving and feasting on your roofing surfaces. The bacteria’s scientific name is "Gloeocapsa Magma”, GM for short. The bacteria spores spread by air, the micro-organisms feed on the limestone fillers found in shingles.Typically found on the north and west sides of roofs which receive less sun, and any shady areas that tend to stay wet longer caused by overhanging tree branches. Accumulation of the bacteria starts to show as the ugly black spot then streaks on your roof. The bacteria colonies turn black as their outer coating turns hard to protect itself against the suns UV rays.
As the bacteria colony grows, it lengthens and streaks down the roof caused by gravity and holds more moisture on the roof, accelerating the bacteria growth. This provides an excellent environment for moss and lichen to soon follow! It is a viscous circle of roof destruction, decay and dramatic drop in your home, or business’s curb appeal.
A roof treatment from Veterans Cleaning Solutions will: restore your curb appeal, raise your properties value, lower your energy costs, reduce respitory irritants outside and eventually inside your home or office. Did I mention a roof treatment will pay for itself in reduced summer time cooling bills and less frequent roof replacement?
Selling your home? A roof and exterior treatment can also make for better photos for your listing and reduce Days On Market. Remove buyers reason why they don’t like your house and get to the closing table faster when your home is clean and pristine, inside and out. One Call, Cleans It All when your Call Veterans On The Carpet.
Should I replace my roof, or have it cleaned?
Caution! Be careful of whom you ask this question. The roofer will advise replacement, the supplier of the shingles will advise replacement and the cleaner will advise that you clean it. Let’s do the math. A $12,000 roof replacement will be $6,000 in shingles and $6,000 to the roofing company for labor (Tear off and installation). The investment to clean your existing roof will be around 1/12 the cost of replacement or $1,000 for this example and the cleaning pays for itself. You will recoup the investment through lower energy bills associated with summer time cooling expenses and only cleaning stops the bacteria that is eating your roofing material that leads to premature replacement. If your roof shingles are still under their warranty period (typically 25 to 40 years) and still in good shape, call us to have it cleaned. If there are any leaks due to minor shingle damage or a few missing shingles, call us anyway, as we can refer you to an expert roofing company in your local area.
Is cleaning my roof merely a cosmetic repair?
NO. The black streaks will prevent your shingles from deflecting the sun properly and can increase your cooling costs. Also, since the algae is feeding on the limestone in your shingles, it is slowly breaking them down. By not cleaning your roof, you are reducing the life of your shingles by up to 50%.
Will you damage my roof with high pressure?
NO. We do not use a pressure washer at all while treating your roof. We use a specialized LOW PRESSURE delivery system designed to gently clean the algae from the surface of your roof, similar to an agricultural spraying system. Our system uses no more pressure than your garden hose! We simply apply the cleaner, allow it to dwell and rinse it clean. After the treatment is complete we feed your plants and landscaping.
How much will it cost to get my roof cleaned?
Each roof treatment is different, and many factors are taken into consideration when developing a quote. Pitch of the roof, square footage, degree of black stains, is moss and/or lichen present, perimeter landscaping, accessibility, water spigot pressure, etc. Typically, but depending on the factors mentioned prior, an average roof cleaning and treatment with the 5 year "spot free” limited warranty is extremely cost effective.
Beware of the lowest bidder! 5 Star and Authorized SoftWash professionals may not be the lowest bid because they are the companies that provide the highest level of value, excellent customer service and act as the standards bearer for the roof and exterior cleaning industry.
Do you offer partial cleaning on just the bad areas?
Yes, we can. Veterans Cleaning Solutions understands that certain cleaning needs may apply, such as touching up only the front visible roof to increase the curb appeal for a home that is for sale. But it is highly recommended to avoid a partial cleaning and treatment. The un-treated sections most likely already have bacteria and algae spores you cannot see. These spores will travel to the treated roof sections and expedite contamination and re-growth. Therefore, we do not offer the 5 year "Spot Free” limited warranty on partial cleanings and treatments. Our 5 year "Spot Free” limited warranty is transferable if a home is sold.

Our professional grade system is designed to operate and deliver a custom blended cleaning solution at 45 -50 psi. That’s about the strength of your garden hose or a hard rain fall. Our eco-friendly solutions do the work, gently and as recommended by roofing manufacturers.
Veterans Cleaning Solutionswill clean your roof, siding, fencing and other exterior surfaces more safely than any other cleaner in the area.
Can bacteria, algae, moss or lichen cause roof damage?
Yes! Un-treated roofs may lose up to 50% of the expected roof shingle life cycle. The black streaks (bacteria) are eating the limestone in the shingle and causing erosion.Roof bacteria, moss, lichen and algae all cause granular loss from shingles. Bacterial growth (Gloeocapsa Magma) feeds on the limestone aggregate while the filament root systems digs deep into the shingle surface. Moss, fugus and lichen cause discoloration and small cracks in shingles. The resulting damage will reduce the life of your roofing materials. Granular loss also reduces reflection of the suns UV rays and protection from the elements.
The earlier your roof is cleaned and treated the better! Our treatment stops the accelerated damaging effect of microbial growth on all roofing surfaces. Residential and commercial.
What Causes Roof Stains and Other Roof Issues?
For the last 30 years or so, asphalt shingles have been manufactured using limestone as the base filler for added weight and to cut the expense of manufacturing. The ugly black streaks are a form of bacteria "Gloeocapsa Magma”, GM for short that who’s food source is the limestone filler of your shingles! The materials of most asphalt shingles encourage the bacteria and algae to grow. The longer the black streaks remain and grow, the more damage is done to your shingles.
The earlier your roof is cleaned and treated the better!
